HOPEWELL VALLEY CHORUS

Spring 2003 Repertoire

The Spring 2003 concert on May 9th will featured Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms. Conducted by music director Marjorie K. Herman, the chorus was accompanied by organist Paul Fejco, harpist Cheryl Cunningham and percussionist Dan Hutt. Eva Truncellito, of Lawrenceville, performed the child solo in the second movement.

In his Chichester Psalms, Bernstein drew from Psalms 2, 23, 100, and 108, using striking tonalities and rhythms to frame a message of peace and celebration, jolted in the second movement by the strident voices of men calling for war. Titled "With a Psalm in Your Heart," the performance will include other psalm settings by Berger, Mendelssohn and Steven Schwartz (from Godspell), along with selections from The Fantasticks and Man of La Mancha and Kermit the Frog's soulful "Rainbow Connection."
